Our expert team are also available to advise you on your installation options from full coverage to bespoke runners and finishing touches like edging and stair rods. Your choices are endless and we will always adapt to be as creative as we can to deliver on even the most bespoke brief!
We will visit your home to complete a full measured survey of your stairs and identity any preparation work that may be required. And we also have an amazing team of fitters who love nothing more than perfecting your stair installations so you are completely happy with the finished results.
To give you a little taste of some of the material and design options available to you let us talk you through some of our recent real life stair installation projects, all with their own individual requirements and design style.
Taped Edges
We can turn virtually any of our hundreds and hundreds of carpet choices into a made to measure runner for your stairs, and for a super smart way to complete the look we can add taped edging. We offer a huge choice of taped edging material including cotton, canvas, leather and suede, and you can also choose from a huge array of colours and plain, striped or patterned options.
For this project we installed Alternative Flooring Wool Iconic Herringbone carpet in the Newman colourway and added black herringbone cotton taping to the edges.
Whipped Edges
Another option when choosing to have your carpet cut to a runner design on your stairs is whipped edging. The process of whipping is both practical and stylish. It provides finished edges for your runner to ensure the carpet used will not fray, and also gives you the option to keep things simple with a matching colour, or add a little two tone flair by using different coloured yarn.
In this home we used Telenzo London Bridge carpet in the Stone colourway to create a made-to-measure runner and added a lighter toned wool yarn whipped edge to create a subtle contrast to the edging.
Full Coverage Carpet
Your other option with carpet of course is to install them full width for complete coverage. This takes away any issues with the condition of the stair treads as they will be completely covered and free of any future maintenance requirements, and creates an all over design, whether you choose a single colour carpet or something more playful with stripes or pattern.
For this impressive home’s upper levels we installed super soft Cormar Carpets Apollo Comfort in the Popsicle colourway to the landing, stairs and into the bedrooms which also features some additional step work inside.
Wood Flooring
Carpets and runners are not your only choice for stairs. We can take most of our engineered wood floors and install them onto your stairs for a beautifully natural and super easy to keep clean finish. If you want wood floors in your hallway this creates a nice matched looked too, and for many of our wood floors we can source matching nosing for a seamless and smart finish.
On these stairs we installed our stocked Parador Rustic Oak engineered wood floor planks on the stairs and extended the wood floors to run across the landing and into the bedroom for one seamless wood floor finish.
Curves and Spirals
Unusual stairs don’t stop us. Your stair carpets can embrace your curves and spirals with expert installation from our professional fitters.
For this impressive stair case we installed the sustainable and durable finish of natural fibre sisal with Crucial Trading Sisal Oriental in the Copper colourway in a full coverage format to the curved stairs and landing.
Mixed Products
There is no end to how creative you can be on your stairs and one great way to create truly bespoke design is to mix up your products. Just let us know your design ideas and we can suggest winning combinations that will work perfectly on your stairs.
One look we recently created was this mix of luxury vinyl flooring and carpet on these Surrey stairs, where we installed Amtico Flooring Noble Oak planks on the stair risers and Telenzo Carpets 100% wool loop London Bridge carpet in Deer on the treads.
Mixed Edging
We’ve already looked at taped and whipped edging, and if you have a couple of storeys of stairs to complete there is nothing stopping you having a mix of edge finishes to make the most of your stair’s unique features.
This worked particularly well in this home where the first flight of stairs were large and spacious but the second flight was in a narrower space. So for the first flight of feature stairs we added Brockway Carpets Galloway design in the Fleet Kestrel colourway, adding a matching toned cotton taping to the edges. We then added whipped edging on the second set of stairs for a more contained design.
Carpet Two Ways
Find a carpet you love and let us make it work throughout the home for full coverage flooring mixed with bespoke runner design.
This project is a great example of picking a carpet design to run through your ground floor hallway and across your first floor landing, and connecting this with the same carpet created as a made-to-measure runner. We installed Brockway Carpets Gatsby herringbone as full coverage carpet and as a bespoke stair runner, adding black cotton taping to complete the edges on the stairs.
Commercial Requirements
And just as a final example, if your project has commercial safety requirements we can help too! Such requirements don’t mean turning your back on style.
For the shared stairs in this block of residential flats we combined the need for distinguishable nosing that met safety regulations with on-trend striped carpet design installing Brockway’s Portofino striped carpet in Grigio and adding Quantum Flooring heavy duty stair nosing to meet all regulation requirements.
We would love to help you step up your stair design! These are just a few examples of stairs designs we have completed, we’ve done hundreds more and can offer you so much design and installation advice.
